Customer Service

Susan attended college at the University of Central Arkansas and has lived in the Mountain Home area since she was 4 years old. Her family moved to the nearby river town of Calico Rock to open up a fishing service and dock on the banks of the White River.

Susan's dad introduced her to his business at an early age. By the time she was 10, she was working at the counter at the dock and making lures to sell to the local fishermen, some for as little as $.01 each. She soon realized that making lures didn't quite satisfy her desire for candy so she set out for a more profitable venture: cleaning fish for the anglers staying in the nearby fishing camps. Susan was quite an entrepreneur, and she's heard a lifetime of tall fishing tales from the local anglers. Her dad ran the dock and fishing service on the river for more than 25 years.

Susan came to Wapsi in January 2002 after working as an Optometry Assistant. She vividly remembers her first day on the job because it marked the opening of Wapsi's new 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse. Recently she said:

"I was so nervous on my first day because I didn't know where anything was. Fortunately, I wasn't alone - no one else knew where anything was either. I felt right at home."

"One of the things I like so much about working at Wapsi is speaking to our customers. I look forward every day to talking to friendly people and wish I could meet all of them."

Family life is very important to Susan, and she is a part of a happy family. She has been married 17 years to her husband, Kenney, and has two children, a daughter, Mercedes, 16, and a son, Tyler, 14. Kenney works for Baxter International and rides a Harley. Susan isn't so happy about that as she recently stated:

"I hate that Kenney rides a motorcycle because it is dangerous, and he is a risk taker. He has broken his arms at least 7 times. He tells me not to worry because he is older and wiser now."

Mercedes and Tyler are very involved with athletics, and Susan finds that most of her free time is wrapped up in taking them to volleyball, softball, and football games and practices. When she has a rare moment to herself, she enjoys snuggling up on the couch with her dog, Lucky, and cat, Nikki, while watching the Lifetime channel.

One of Susan's favorite things to do is travel. She is looking forward to future trips, she wants to see the Grand Canyon, California's redwood forest, New England during leaf peak season, and (as wacky as it sounds) the inner workings of an aircraft carrier.

One interesting trip found her at Universal Studios in Orlando the week after the September 11th tragedy. She recalled the place was empty.

"Rides that you usually had to wait 2 to 3 hours to ride, you could get on them time and time again without any wait. It was like a ghost town. Although our trip was scheduled the week after September 11th, I didn't cancel because I figured, if we changed our plans, the terrorists would have won and (thus) accomplished their goals."Susan is a pretty remarkable addition to Wapsi, and we are glad to have her as a member of our family.
