Obviously, Chew Balls make an awesome egg

It goes without saying that you can make realistic egg flies very easily with Chew Balls. It is as simple as threading one onto a hook. Rather than taking the easy road (which may not be legal in some states or on some rivers - check the game laws first), we suggest you challenge yourself and use them as a component of a fly rather than by themselves. If you insist on using one for an egg fly (did we mention they make an awesome egg?), try one on the head of an Egg Sucking Leech.

More challenging uses

Chew Balls can be used in a variety of ways. Since they come in strands of balls the same diameter, tie an entire strand into a fly as an extended body. For particularly nice looking caddis larva and pupa bodies, use the smallest size strands.

The balls can be torn apart from the strand and threaded onto a hook (or small diameter cord material such as Micro Ultra Chenille). Using this process, you can make flies like ants (using 2 or 3 balls) or tapered bodies using several chew balls pushed together in descending size.

On larger flies, tie in underneath other materials to make a soft, chewy fly that fish really hold on to.
